Hi everyone, Here are ten more slides, once again all SD40-2's by Moss E. Hulsey. While these are still predominantly action, a today there are more rosters than in the past few days. One particularly interesting roster is SD40-2 #8002 in the first version of the experimental tiger stripe scheme. Note the tiger stripes on the side of the nose in addition to the front. I do not know how long 8002 looked like this, but by June 1999 (probably much sooner than that) the sides of the nose were painted green as in this photo, more like the experimental "standard" used on most of the GP50's and the SD60 demonstrators. 8002 unit later got it's nose redone in the whiteface scheme, as shown in this 1997 photo. For a long time, I thought the whiteface scheme 8002 wears was a one-of-a-kind variation, since it has the large BN logo and lettering on the long hood and the number on the side of the cab as is typical of the tiger stripe scheme. While not exactly the same, SD40-2 #7812 also sports these unique features, plus a white stripe running the entire length of the frame sill. Enjoy, Charles |
