Message of the day - September 14, 2004:

Hi everyone,

Given how little BN motive power there is to photograph in this day and age, it was quite a treat to travel to Tulsa, OK last weekend and catch not one, but two subjects still in BN paint. I expect there are still several SD60M's and SD70MAC's without BNSF paint or lettering, and even GP28M #1503 is a relatively modern rebuild with decent BN whiteface paint, however I was pleasantly surprised to find SD38-2 #6261 still in pre-whiteface BN paint with only "REMOTE CONTROL EQUIPPED" decals applied and a relocated headlight to suggest this photo is from well into the BNSF era. Given this unit is also the only SD38-2 not rebuilt as a SD38P to power a TEBUC6, I should not be surprised. With any luck this unit will remain this way for years to come, but I took the opportunity to shoot it from several angles just in case.

Oh, and to make sure I had the usual five photos, taking up the fifth spot is C30-7 #5500, sitting in BNSF's Alliance Yard in Haslet, TX a full four years after being retired. It already came bacck from retirement once, as it went from BN to HLCX back to BN. Something tells me it was en route to a new owner when this photo was taken.

Enjoy,
Charles
