Hi everyone,
It has been a while since I've posted any EMD GP30's, one of the more popular models with respect to style. Today we have five photos of them from contributor Rick Briney, one former GN and four former CB&Q. Since Rick mainly took photos in ex-CB&Q Lincoln, Nebraska it should be no surprise that his sampling favors the ex-CB&Q units. I will have to say that in the early 1990's I was a big fan of the GP30 and GP35 due to the high quality N scale models produced by Kato for Atlas. At that time, they were in my opinion the best running models available in N scale, period. Only the ex-GN unit still survives on the BNSF, rebuilt to GP39M #2811 in December 1988. As one of the first of the many GP30 and GP35 rebuilds, it retained the Cascade Green paint with diagonal nose striping. Most of these rebuilds were done after the Whiteface paint scheme was adopted. Due to the paint and lack of carbody modification as was common on later GP39E, GP39M and GP39V rebuilds this is one of the few that is easy to confuse as an unrebuilt unit. Enjoy, Charles |
