Hi everyone, Here is the first 10 plus one from last time of yet another "SD40-2 ad nauseam" CD. I really like pointing out that there is quite a bit of variety among what may seem to be just a bunch of the same thing. First off, I had BNSF SD40-2 #6799 scanned and ready to post, so I though I'd try to get BN SD40-2 #6799 posted on the same day. While some of you may think this is a before and after shot, it isn't. BN 6799 will be one of the few BN SD40-2's to be renumbered. It will become BNSF 6790, if it hasn't been renumbered already. Another reason I wanted to post BN today is that four of today's shots were taken exactly a year ago today. Now, on to a few other interesting things I have noticed about today's SD40-2's. Note the before and after shots of SD40-2 #6358. Little has changed, but one change is quite obvious, at least to me. The headlight has been moved to the nose. Some say that this is evidence that it is the Santa Fe that took over the BN, as this is a typical Santa Fe practice. Also, the rotary beacon has been removed and the horn has been relocated, but this may have been done earlier, as removing beacons and relocating horns was a standard BN practice before the merger. The other unusual unit is get BN #6368. This unit has the nose logo of a whiteface unit, but lacks the white cab front, anticlimber, and frame sills typical of the whiteface scheme. |
