Message of the day - June 2, 2004:

Hi everyone,

Fortunately, contributor Chris Stewart provided a broad variety of BN subjects, so I am able to make a timely break from the planned SD60M's since I just got the Kato BN SD70MAC's I ordered, and my initial impression is good. With a little white paint on the proper parts of the handrails and some other detail parts, these locomotives should be satisfactory, and I can not say that for very many factory painted models. Fortunately, I have previous photos of both road numbers offered by Kato, SD70MAC #9580 and SD70MAC #9615, the latter of which was photographed by Chris.

So for those of you who just got or are considering the purchase of these new Kato models, here are five fresh SD70MAC photos. For those of you buying undecs, be careful. Note that early BN SD70MAC's are different in several ways, with the most noticable differences being on the cab. Compare SD70MAC #9478 and SD70MAC #9702, and note first that the nose door is on opposite sides, and also note the seam in the cab of 9702, which indicates the "isolated" cab design. This cab features additional shock absorbers for a smoother ride.

Enjoy,
Charles
