Hi everyone, Today I am posting ten more slides from contributor Chris Stewart. These are all recent photos of a variety of subjects. There are a couple shots I found particularly interesting today. One is the shot of GP40-2 #3049. The BN only had 25 GP40-2's and interestingly, all were leased since new by the Frisco (and inherited by BN) from KCS. They were all returned in September and October of 1997, and Chris' shot is from September, so it is possible that this is the last photo of this unit taken while still in BN revenue service! Also, there is a shot of LLPX SD40 #4302, which appears to be a former BN SD40, but was originally MoPac SD40 #770, and more recently was a former GATX lease unit (designated SD40G by BN) that was painted in BN colors after BN agreed to a long term lease. This lease may have expired, or maybe the unit was sold to LLPX by GATX, and BN/BNSF simply continued the lease. Too bad they didn't use the same elegant method of denoting ownership as GATX did. Oh well, it's still interesting! In retrospect, I really should have posted LLPX 4302 to the BNSF site, since the GATX to LLPX transition occurred in summer of 1997, but the BN green paint just made me think BN.... |
