Hi everyone, I'm not sure when I last posted some of my own BN photos, but I think it has been a while. While researching what to do with an "early" N-scale Kato SD40-2 I stripped a couple months ago I realized it has been quite a while since I've dug out some SD40-2's. It appears I have not posted a BN SD40-2 since a February 2001 batch from Mark Lynn. I found about 100 SD40-2 slides that I had not posted yet and picked out 72 for what I believe I'll call SD40-2 Ad Nauseam Volumes V and VI - It's been almost four years since I did volume IV. If you are a long time BN fan and photographer, there was probably a time when you were bored with the SD40-2, as commonplace as it was in the 80's and early 90's. I've heard the term "Dash nine boredom" among BNSF railfans, and I would guess the same was true for the SD40-2 at one time. With the C44-9W replacing the SD40-2 as the unit of choice for most mainline freights, it is not often I see an SD40-2 on the lead of a train any more, and they are getting very hard to find without some hint of BNSF lettering or full BNSF paint. I recall a few months back seeing two pure BN SD40-2's hauling a northbound. Due to poor lighting I did not shoot them, but I wondered at the time if I'd ever see that sight again. Most of these photos are from the last four years, with a few showing signs of BNSF influence - the relocation of their headlights from the top of the cab to the nose. Hope you don't get too bored as I pump out these SD40-2 photos. At this age, at least they don't "all look the same" any more. Enjoy, Charles |
