Message of the day - August 8, 1999:

Hi everyone,

Here are are five more motive power shots from a recent trade with Mark R. Lynn, and five by with Mike Bledsoe from the collection of with Moss E. Hulsey.

Of today's shots the one I found most interesting was Mark's shot of brand spanking new SD60M #9298. The lack of dirt makes for lack of detail in the black paint, but what I noticed was the lack of an American flag decal on the "cheek" of it's white face. American flags were applied to nearly all BN units in support of military reserve employees serving in the Gulf War. I do have a couple shots of 9200-9249 class units with the older style three window cab that have no flag, but it's much more noticably missing on the newer 9250-9298 class SD60M.

One of the last units in the 9250-9298 class, BN SD60M #1991 was painted in a special red white and blue scheme with the slogan "Pulling For Freedom" in support of the employees, and had a plaque attached listing them all. One of these next years I hope to find a good shot of it, for posting on an upcoming July 4th. Anyone out there have a really good slide of 1991 available for trade?

Now that I take a second look at the photos, there is one other interesting subject - can anyone out there explain why SD45 #6500 appears to have three dynamic brake fans instead of the usual two?
